The Reverend Canon Professor George Iype Kovoor is the Chaplain To Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II since 1988. He is today the Rector of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Darien in Connecticut, USA. He is also an academic fellow of Berkeley College at Yale University where he is also an adjunct Professor.George comes from the ancient Syrian orthodox church established by the apostle Thomas in 52 AD in India. He is from a distinguished line of Christian priests, educationalists, medical doctors and serving officers in the military. He is the son of a retired IAF Fighter Pilot.He studied at AFBBS (BBAFS) from 1966 to 1974. His was the 1st batch to graduate from AFBBS. He was in school Basketball & Football team.He was a Swimmer and Sailor and along with Anil Tandon won the National Sailing Championships. He represented India in Sailing from 1972 to 1975. Post school got admission to St Stephens College but migrated to study Economics, Politics and Philosophy at Hindu College, DU. He later studied Theology, Education, Religions, Philosophy and Management in the UK. He was ordained a Christian Priest in 1980 in the Church of North India. He was the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral in Ambala, then he became the Principal Chaplain of St Stephens Hospital in Delhi.He was appointed the Chaplain to the Olympics games in 1988 at Seoul Korea where he has been 31 times to teach at the Seoul National University and the Yong Sei University as a Visiting Professor. He moved to UK in 1988,where he served on the staff of the ArchBishop of Canterbury.In 1994,he was appointed Principal of the Selly Oak College at Birmingham University. In 2005,he was appointed Principal of the prestigious Trinity College at Bristol University. He moved to US in 2013 to teach at Yale and return to his first call to be a Priest.
George is a warm and engaging person, a Strategic Thinker, an Entrepreneur and a Transformational Leader.He is a Communicator Extraordinaire. He has travelled to over 100 nations as a conference speaker on Education,Leadership, Management Culture and Ethnicity. He is an opinion maker and a leader. He is bothan ambassador of Jesus Christ and an international educator and Theologian. He has preached to millions around the world. George has a regular Global Television programme called “Insights with George Kovoor, which is a bi weekly programme on Trinity Broadcasting Network in Europe. He has a daily livecast on Face Book called “CROSSROADS with George Kovoor:”. He also has a “You Tube Channel” in his name..He serves the poor and homeless. He is very involved with Drug and alcohol rehabilitation in Connecticut.
George is married to Chitra who is an academic, they have three children Timothy, Joshua and Esther who studied at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. His home is full of people, books, works of art, music, robust discussions and much laughter. He reads widely and enjoys sports.He loves to play tennis, go fishing, sail and kayak. George is a foodie! He enjoys cooking for his family and friends. He speaks, plays the guitar and sings in several languages.
